Empowering Mentors: KTM Advances Holistic Child Support

In September 2024, KICA Transforms Ministry (KTM) conducted a three-day training for its mentors from the 3rd to the 5th of the month. A total of 12 mentors and 4 KTM staff members participated in the enriching workshop designed to strengthen their skills in community Bible study and holistic child support.

The training, held with vibrant morning devotions full of praise, worship, prayer, and Bible sharing, aimed to equip mentors with the knowledge and tools needed to better engage with children during center days. The major focus was on how to effectively conduct age-appropriate community Bible study—a growing initiative across Uganda.

Facilitated by a trainer from Community Bible Study Uganda, the session introduced a four-level curriculum tailored to children’s age and learning capacity. From storytelling for non-readers (Level 1) to book-by-book Bible study for young adults (Level 4), mentors gained a deeper understanding of how to nurture spiritual growth in children.

Other key topics included:

  • Monitoring, Visits, and Report Writing: Mentors learned how to conduct meaningful home and school visits and how to write effective reports using a step-by-step guide.
  • Child Abuse and Sexual Exploitation: The team explored children’s rights, warning signs, prevention strategies, and how to respond to abuse cases.
  • Psychosocial Support: Mentors were taught how to identify signs of emotional distress in children and offer practical support.
Following the training, mentors from areas such as Pader and Kitgum quickly put their learning into practice, organizing engaging center days and using locally available materials to teach.

This training marks another step in KTM’s commitment to empowering community leaders to reflect God’s mercy and promote holistic child development.
