Peace building

KTM concluded the last phase of trainings on peace building in refugee settlements in January 2022 in Arua. This was a carry forward activity from 2021 whose preparation was started but was not fully implemented. A total of 60 leaders from 7 different zones (27 women and 33 men) in Rhino camp settlement were trained in peacebuilding. The topics taught included: forgiveness, reconciliation, trauma healing, basic counselling and conflict resolution. A number of the participants shared on how life transforming the training was for them and promised to replicate it in their communities. Apai Mary a participant from Siripi zone- Rhino camp in Arua testified that her husband was killed as she looked on helplessly because of the conflict in Southern Sudan but she has since forgiven the killers.

Formation of Peace clubs

The trainings were followed by formation of peace clubs which were a community driven initiative in which the members trained in peace building reached out to those in their communities with messages of peace through activities such as drama, community dialogues and sports. KTM supported the peace clubs with sports equipment to enable them conduct their activities with ease. As a result, over 1000 people were reached with messages of peace.

Peace Building Transformational Story
MARCH 2022

Testimony on Peacebuilding

One group, headed by Mariam, a refugee from Congolese community, visited a family that was divided with members living apart, the group ministered to the family and the family appreciated because there was nobody who ever thought of even visiting and sharing anything with them. They could not heal in isolation, but when visited, the family eventually came back together, children and parents.

Leadership development

Over the years KTM has realized the importance of leaders in communities because the leaders act as focal points for identification and handling of community issues. The unique role of Church and community leaders in influencing the transformation of society therefore needs to be tapped. Leadership development is therefore part of Kica Transforms Ministry program as we seek to transform the society in Northern Uganda and South Sudan so that there is change and ultimately break the cycle of poverty. The main aim is to increase the influence of Christian leaders in the transformation of their societies.  Objectives is to empower leaders with knowledge and skills to transform their communities. Increase income levels of leaders through income generating activities (IGA.) Mentor and foster continuity of good leadership practices in their local communities. To expose leaders to the Christian world view and community world view. To raise leaders who can identify the vulnerable in society and be a voice to the voiceless,
